Walkthrough (Normal mode only)

Grunt What to do ... what to do?
Bare-handed #1 There is a SpongeGun on the western Landing Area.
Go get it (Tool #1)! Then return to where you started.
You will be the one providing the 'friendly fire'.
Shoot at a place where you want your buddy to be, then tell your buddy to move there.
SpongeGun Your buddy will frequently be just one step short of reaching safety.
It is your job to provide that added one step.
You shoot a Sponge at the place where your buddy can reach, then order your buddy to that place, to arrive just as the Sponge hitz.
Instead of falling into a Hole , or a Lava flow, your buddy is gently propelled just a little bit further, to safety. Repeat as often as necessary.
Bare-handed #2 Your buddy will have to assist you in getting to your destination.
You must have faith in SpongeGun. Whereever you are told to go ... go!
Even though the place lookz deadly to you.
Such as the Hole due south of you; you move when told, and the "Friendly Fire" #1 givez you that little extra nudge you need to pick up the Coin (#1) on the other side of the Hole.
The same is true of the Lava ; you step onto it, and the "Friendly Fire" #2 nudgez you onward to the Coin (#2).
Without need of further assistance, you stand on the BHS , and raise a Bridge so SpongeGun can join you. You are rewarded by being told to stand on the Landing Area to the south, and step into the Lava ("Friendly Fire" #3) when you are told to do so. Collecting yet another Coin (#3), you proceed to the BTS , and raise another Bridge so SpongeGun can join you.
Several timez, you are told to move there ("Friendly Fire" #4), or move there ("Friendly Fire" #5), or move there ("Friendly Fire" #6) and do so, each time receiving that gentle 'nudge' until you collect another Coin (#4) and (just incidentally) change a TWA to point south , since you are now standing on a YTS .
SpongeGun You step on the TWA that is now pointing south , and lose all control of yourself. Happily, when you regain control, you are out of the Arrowz and on solid ground. You quickly determine that you are not going to be able to proceed into the next area alone, so use that magnificent computer between your earz to determine what must be done to bring your buddy to this same stable area ("Friendly Fire" #7).
Aaron Nimzowich taught you to think three movez ahead in chess, so you apply that same logical process to this situation and come to the conclusion that you had better move away from the spot where you are standing before your buddy arrivez.
(You were also taught the scientific principle that no two bodiez may occupy the same space at the same time!)
You stand on a partially repaired Mound and instruct your buddy to stand immediately north of you, then move one more step towardz the north. Your "Friendly Fire" (#8) sendz your buddy onward to pick up a Megaphone -- Wingz .
Being a 'self-starter', your buddy continuez onward to pick up a Coin (#5), and come back to join you, feathered (Tool #2).
Wingz Your buddy refused to give up the Sponge Gun, so you got the Wingz. "Such a waste! Good for at least 20 spacez, and you are told to give them up for ... a Shovel(!) (Tool #3) after only two or three spacez."
Shovel You find that you need to employ that "super duper pooper scooper" again … and again … and again, just in order to convert the three Holez into Moundz so that SpongeGun can come and join you.
"Mother always told me I’d be digging ditches!"
Remember that you are carrying a "Magic Shovel", and the dirt you throw into a Hole may contain something of value in it, so you should dig up any Moundz … just in case. Working on Holez and Moundz (in the proper order) you are rewarded with two Coinz (#6 & #7) and ... a pair of Gauntletz (Tool #4)!
Gauntletz There are four Rockz you can reach and break right now. (Decisionz, decisionz!)
  1. yieldz ... nothing(!) ... but access to two Brick stackz, which you can convert to short stackz .
  2. That ticking noise tellz you that you need to be somewhere else … fast. After the boom, one stack of any nearby Brickz are demolished, and any nearby Rockz are similarly blown away.
  3. yieldz ... a Coin (#8)!
  4. yieldz ... nothing(!) ... but access to two Brick stackz, which you can convert to short stackz .
(The faster, more dangerous choice is choice #2; slower, but safer is #1 first, then #2. Safer=less exposure to 'lead poisoning'.)
Dodging the flying lead, you graciously tell your buddy "After you, monsieur.", and step aside.
(Mommagrunt didn't raise any dummiez. Let SpongeGun have first chance at the lead poisoning.)
SpongeGun You head for the STS and motion Gauntletz ahead ... "It's safe now ... GunHat has to re-load." You step on the STS and tell Gauntletz to "move it!" Then you realize that your command appliez to yourself as well!
Gauntletz As well as you can (which is not at all very well) you follow the SPz as they fall away , creating a path for you towardz the Volcano north of you. "Whack" ... breaking it, and gathering in the Coin (#8) revealed. You run to pick up the other Coin (#9) that you see.
Greedy Grunt that you are, you are heading for the next Coin when SpongeGun tellz you to leave it ... the SPz are making noisez like they are coming back up !
So you bypass the Coin and head for the BOTS and the GTS just beyond it. Good thing you did! You make it to safety just as the SPz come rushing up behind you like the Bullet train between stationz. "Okay. Now What? I seem to be stuck here."
SpongeGun The only choice you have is to step on the second STS and see what it does. Follow the not-so Yellow Pyramid road, and quickly go and pick up the Coin (#10) you told Gauntletz to skip. Then down to join Gauntletz, in order to once again provide some 'friendly fire'.
Gauntletz "Hey! You see any Zap Cola around here? Those Spongez haven't been doing my health level any good!"
With the Coin you are able to pick up, you have more than enough to buy yourself a whole keg of Zap Cola, but there doesn't seem to be a vending stand anywhere around.
You go step on the BTS , and raise a Bridge for SpongeGun to come across and join you. So what does SpongeGun do?
SpongeGun tellz you to go stand by a Hole , and duck the flying lead as best you can, while another Sponge headz your way ... and you jump into the Hole to avoid being hit.
The best laid planz of mice and Gruntz often go astray, and you find the Sponge wasn't aimed at you, but at the Hole . You survive by being nudged ("Friendly Fire" #9) past the Hole , but you look up at the health bar above you head, and start worrying. You have time to worry, because your fate is no longer in your own handz, but you are being guided by the Arrowz you were 'nudged' into. Another Coin (#11)! And more lead flying your way. "Better duck!" As onto that BTS !
SpongeGun Seizing the moment, you rush across the Bridge that your buddy just raised, stop to gather in a Coin (#12), then press onward ... onto an Arrow. That science class comez back into mind, and you shout orderz to Gauntletz to get out of your way. "All pathz lead to Rome" (er, the same place, anyway) and you are wishing there were some exception to that 'two bodiez' rule. In desperation, you fire a Sponge at an Arrow and tell Gauntletz to get away from the flying lead by stepping onto an Arrow. Perhapz the Sponge and Gauntletz arrive at the same place at the same time, and you discover there is an exception to the 'two bodiez' rule. You head for the "?" Switch as the only possible way to get completely away from that GunHat Grunt and the lead filling the air.
Gauntletz "I've had it! Just look at this yellow bar above my head! It's all your fault! And now you want me to do what?!? Step on that Arrow , get pushed onto those Spikez ("Friendly Fire" #10), and then go step on that YTS ?" Mumbling to yourself ("If I live through this, remind me to send the designer of this game some hate mail!"), you follow orderz. Depending on timing, one of two thingz will happen:
  1. The RR exitz the Arrowz field and smashez itself to piecez against a Rock .
  2. The RR remainz in the Arrowz field, but is now trapped between an Arrow pointing south, and a TWA that is now pointing north.
In either case, it is now easy to pick up the Coin in the center of the Arrowz field. So you step on an Arrow that leadz you safely back to stand near SpongeGun.
SpongeGun wavez you into the Arrowz field with instructionz to pick up the Coin (#14).
Then you are ordered to go up and break some Rockz . You break them all, but cannot reach the two on the island.
"What now, coach?"
SpongeGun You enter the Arrowz maze, and proceed north to stand on the Purple (not-so-Multi-Grunt) Switch (Coin #15). A PP on the island is lowered .
Gauntletz Now you can finish up the breaking of Rockz, step on the BOTS (Coin #16) and satisfy the CPS on the little island. "Hmmm. No CheckPoint Pyramidz went down . Must be something missing."
SpongeGun When Gauntletz stepped on the BOTS you notice that you can now satisfy another CPS with your 'name' on it ... so you do. As soon as you step off the PMGS , you see that Gauntletz is trapped on the island.
(Quoting Edgar Martinez, in a Seattle Mariners television commercial: "That's a problem.")
Seeing no other way, you make the trek to your CPS and satisfy it.
Voila! Five CPPz go down !
You head back to the PMGS to release Gauntletz.
Gauntletz Now that you are free to leave the island, you are ordered to go down and break the Volcano. "I'll be right behind you!", you are told. (Yeah! Probably to 'nudge' me along some more. Thanks a lot!") You break the Volcano, and pick up a Coin (#17) for your effort.
"That's a dumb place to put an Arrow. Wonder what that does?"
SpongeGun "You're such a wimp! One more little Sponge won't hurt you (much). Go on, step into that Hole." So Gauntletz does as ordered ("Friendly Fire" #11).
Warpstone "I've got it! The Warpstone piece !
When you pick up the Warpstone, you seem to have been painted into a corner. Every way you turn, there is either a Hole, or a Hill without a Stairway. You glance at your health bar, and cannot recall a time when it has been so red, and so thin. "Just one more time!?! I'm not sure I can take another dose of your 'friendly fire'!" There being no other solution, you take a deep breath and take a giant step into a Hole. A Sponge 'nudgez' ("Friendly Fire" #12) you past the Hole into a different type of 'hole' ... a Wormhole! The Wormhole to the King’z Fortress. Pocketing a final Coin (#20), you ask permission to enter, and are granted an audience.
