THE ROCK II WALKTHROUGH Well, here you are on the icy beach, surrounded by goo. The Rockies put you here after finding you played (and got a perfect on) the famous "The Rock" by Guenter. Fearing your brain power (think about it, you must have loads of brain power), they decided to put you here. Fortunately, you kept your Talkerz tool on, so you can talk to your partner, who has a view of the parts to come. You: Ok... How do I get the ball to stay? Partner: You have to warp in as soon as possible. I mean really quickly. You: Ok... Thanks. What do those pressure plates mean? Partner: I will be able to contact you when you are on those. You: Ok... I will start now! Partner: Good luck! You: Thanks! Partner: You're welcome. I get the award for the earliest timer puzzle. When you get the loading screen loads, click click click! If the rolling ball doesn't go back east, it will keep going! If the ball goes back east, just take a breather (and save if this was hard) Then let go of the yellow hold switch you're standing on, and let the ball go ahead of you, then go to other yellow hold switch. If you absolutely can't do this, then just rush off to the yellow hold switch, but you won't have any time to catch your breath. Once the ball passes the yellow 2-way arrow (in the arrows directly below you) Go to the blue toggle switch. Now go back (using the crumble bridges) and hurry to the down arrow in the arrow part. Once you are free of arrows, hurry to the yellow hold switch! If the ball goes west towards the rock, you were too slow! If the ball goes east, you made it! Good job! Now walk to the normal bridge (the ice cube) and zig-zagging, always going on the top of each 2-set of crumble bridges. This allows you to get back the same way. Go quickly over the yellow hold switch, hit the pressure plate and read the description: You: Phew! That took some timing work! Partner: Yep, but it's not over yet. There is still one thing you need to do. You: Don't tell me it's another timing puzzle! Partner: Well, if I did that, I wouldn't be telling the truth, would I? You: Fine! Partner: Have you ever played the EXCELLENT level Decoy Ahoy? You: Yep! Gamer is very very good at level designing. Partner: Well, this part is like that. The ball will take some time. You: Good! Finally, no tight timing parts! Partner: Not quite. The next part will be timed too. You: Urrr! I wish these Rockies people were more stupid! Partner: Ok... You should go now. You: Ok. Then, hit the yellow hold switch, and wait for the ball to go by, then hit the blue toggle switch. When the ball goes over the first bridge, go as fast as possible. Go up to the pressure plate, then down to the blue toggle switch. Repeat this until the ball has passed. (It should be about 4 times) Now hurry back, and like the "partner" said, the next part is going to take a while to complete, but it is still timed! Go to the springz maze (by where the springz are) and pick up the springz. Now go: W NW NE-(Jump) W W-(Jump) W-(Jump) W S-(Jump) S-(Jump) SE S NE-(Jump) SE-(Jump) You will land on the pressure pad, and read this: You: Ok, explain again why I am talking to you, when this part is timed? Partner: The level freezes when you talk to me. It is like a... Hey, wait! You: What Partner: There is a note on the bottom of your springz! You: WHAT DOES IT SAY! Partner: Okay! You don't have to yell at me. You: Well, just say what it says! Partner: It says "For another use" You: Well, duh! I have to jump over that goo. Partner: Well, nobody would have bothered to put a note on it if it was obvious. You: So, you mean it is for a use besides that? Partner: I guess so. You: Ok. Oh ya, I was also going to ask you, how do I change the ball's direction? Partner: Well, see those mounds? I bet there is something in them! You: Ok. Thanks. I am going to get going now. Well, you aren't off the spotlight yet. Your grunt has to get the shovel on the left side, and dig up the mounds. The only mound that you need to dig up before the ball comes by you is the mound on the right. (There isn't anything in holes anywhere in the level, so don't worry.) Make sure to press the switch buried in the bottom-left mound soon after though. This is needed for the ball to not sink. Phew! Now you are not timed... Take a breather, and when you are ready to continue, put the springz grunt by the dock (one that used to have crumble bridges by it) and jump down, and follow the ice-bridges. Get the megaphone but WAIT! Don't give the gauntletz to the springz grunt... Remember, the springz are for another use. Instead go back to the point in which you came in. Go back to the moundz, and go to the up-arrow by the rock. You should be at the area to the right of the springz maze. Then go on back to the right of the screen, so you are 4 spaces below the top-blue toggle switch. Then move this grunt to the left, then jump up-right and up-left. Move the grunt to just below the big tree in the top-right corner. Give this springz grunt the gauntletz, and then pass DIAGONALLY up-left and position your grunt above all those down-facing arrows. Your grunt should have gauntletz when it passes through the warp (although it's not neccesary) SECRET! This secret is easy, just go and collect those 3 coins. Don't try anything wierd here, it's not possible to leave this area. Just go back through the warp. Go back the same way you came. (You will have to go through the springz maze again.) To get the hidden kamikaze grunt to bomb the rocks instead of you, start one square up-right from the right-most rock. The next Then send this grunt up-right and QUICKLY go down-right. The kamikaze grunt should just miss you and hit the rocks. Then go to the pressure pad and read this: You: Ok, I found that other use. Partner: Well I found a note that says "Goo, not water" You: Ok, that makes sense. Partner: Well, it does say that! You: Anything else? Partner: Nothing but "Please recycle!" You: What would I recycle? Anyway, what are all those bombing gruntz for? Partner: They are the guards. They are incredibly stupid. You: What do they do? Partner: If you are next to them, they will run and try to blow you up. You: That's nice! Partner: Well, you are trying to escape. There is a way to outsmart them, though. You: How? Partner: Just stay one square away from them at all times. They won't bomb you then. You: Ok, sounds like a good plan to me! Partner: Thanks! You: You're welcome! The next part is the same concept as Decoy Ahoy! Walk around the Kamikaze guardz as your "partner" told you in order to go through this part. (You will have your revenge on them later.) Go to the 1 switch and then to the black pyramid Go right and diagonally up-right to the pressure plate and read this: You: What are those green pyramids for? Partner: They lead to a blue switch. I think it leads to a bridge. You: How do you get to it? Partner: I don't know. There is a note in the snow though. You: I don't see anything. Partner: It is hard to read... You: What does it say? Partner: It says: "Match the inner to the outer. A perfect match." You: What inner? What outer? Partner: I think it means the two things with balls. You: Okay. Partner: I wonder what those two switches do. You: I was hoping you knew! Partner: Nope. But one of them has to let you proceed. You: Okay. Thanks! Partner: You're welcome. The main puzzle in this section leads to the secret switch. If you don't feel like doing it, just press the yellow toggle switch and skip this part. The "inner" and "outer" is a quote from "A PERFECT MATCH", a Chip's Challenge (another puzzle game) level. The idea here is to make the rolling balls hit the green switches at the same time so your grunt doesn't get squished. To accomplish this, you need to get rid of the balls on the right side that don't match on the left side. Use the yellow hold switch to get rid of the balls. The easiest way I found to do this is to have the grunt be off the yellow hold switch when there is a ball on the up arrow two spaces to the right of the green toggle switch (in the right set of balls), and have the grunt when there is no ball. Once this is done, go back and go to the blue switch and go back. The pyramids should come then go back down, not hurting your grunt. Now bring your shovels grunt down to the mounds by the G. Dig both of them up, fill them in, and get the coin but not the gauntletz. Then go to the hole on the right side of the screen. The easiest way I found to do this is to go over the top of left ball set, then follow the balls on the right set to the bottom of the screen, to the right, and then move the shovels grunt to the hole. Have this grunt fill it in, and move to that island. Surprise! It's a secret switch covered in snow. Move your grunt (use the up arrows) to 2 spaces below the left arrow. A dock should appear and just move your grunt where there is open land. This part is tight, so move quickly! Once it is done, your grunt should be on the platform with the left facing arrow. Follow the correct platforms, and get to the P. Then take the warp back. If you haven't already pressed the yellow toggle switch, press it now, and go back to where the pressure plate was. Now it is time to get your revenge on those bomb gruntz! (It's not neccesary, but it will make the rest go quicker and is fun to do.) Lead them off their platforms, just make sure not to get killed. If this is too hard, just leave them alone. The level's still possible with them there. Go past the green pyramids and go to the pressure plate, then read this: You: Okay. I am by the ball. But where do I want to put it? Partner: You'll want to put it on a platform, later on. You: How do I get it there? The only passage across is that bridge. Partner: Shh... I think I heard something. Rockie 1: Here that other human was! Partner: Ahhh! Stop! NOOOOO... Rockie 2: That was easy. Rockie 1: I am so glad we put those arrows in the rocks and mounds. Rockie 2: Are you sure you didn't put any coins in those mounds? Rockie 1: Yep. Only arrows to be distressing about! Rockie 2: That will be confusing! Muahaha Rockie 1: Muahahaha! Rockie 2: Hey, let's get back to our spots. Rockie 1: No! I want to get some rock candy. Rockie 2: Well I want to go to my post. Rockie 1: You would do that, you dumb purple guard. Rockie 2: Is green any more of a cool color Rockie 1: Fine! Rockie 2: Fine! Go to the right but don't let the rock loose yet. Go across the bridge to the up-right and fill all the holes in. Then go past the 1 switch, and save if you aren't lucky. Lure the green Rockie to fight the purple Rockie, then step away. The purple Rockie should win. If the green Rockie wins, reload this part. Then go past the stair cases (the purple Rockie shouldn't attack your shovelz grunt if you move quickly), and dig up the correct 5 mounds. They form an "almost rectangle". Then go way back to by the 2 sets of rolling balls and pick up those gauntletz. Then come back (it should be easier to go and come if all the kamikazes were destroyed), and break the three rocks on the platform where the rolling ball is. Break the six rocks where the Purple rockie is. When you break the one with the pressure plate, stand on it and read this: You: Hello? Partner: Yep, it's me. They didn't quite kill me. I don't feel great though. You: Ok. Partner: It's a good thing that Rockie got killed!! You: Yeah. I guess they got so mad they decided to fight each other! Partner: Up ahead you will only be allowed through that region once. You: Ok. What's the deal with the red and green pyramids? Partner: What do you mean? You: Well, they aren't moving! Partner: Oh. See that platform I talked earlier about? You: Yeah... Partner: That has the switch to start those moving. You: Okay. After you broke all six of the rocks (make sure to avoid the purple Rockie like before), press the yellow toggle switch. After that, go down to where the rock is and let it loose with the yellow hold switch. Watch it's path to make sure it's going to the right place. It should eventually enter the platform guarded by the fast balls. When the green and red pyramids start moving, follow the pyramids and press the 1 switch. Then go back down to where the ball used to be, and pass through those arrows. After crossing the bridge, go to the black pyramid that was recently lowered. Press the pressure plate and read this: You: Hello? Partner: Yep, it's me. They didn't quite kill me. I don't feel great though. You: Ok. Partner: It's a good thing that Rockie got killed!! You: Yeah. I guess they got so mad they decided to fight each other! Partner: Up ahead you will only be allowed through that region once. You: Ok. What's the deal with the red and green pyramids? Partner: What do you mean? You: Well, they aren't moving! Partner: Oh. See that platform I talked earlier about? You: Yeah... Partner: That has the switch to start those moving. You: Okay. The pyramids are structured so the grunt goes right (the first part is tightly timed) then left a pyramid, then right and down. The grunt waits on this pyramid for the fifth (and last) path to get out, as it is the only one that lasts enough time. Bring the warpstone to the fort and get out of here! You got a perfect score! Toolz: 7 out of 7: The springz at the beginning of the springz maze, the shovelz below the springz maze, the springz below the springz maze, the gauntletz in the megaphone, the springz behind the top-right tree, the shovelz by the green pyramidz, and the gauntletz to the right of both rock sets. Toyz: 0 out of 0 Powerups: 0 out of 0 Coins: 7 out of 7: The coin in the moundz below the springz maze, the three coins in the warp secret, the coin in the mound to the left of the two rock sets, the coin in the rocks below the top platform, and the coin in the rocks by the purple Rockie. Secrets: 2 out of 2: The secret teleporter triggered above the down arrows at the start of the level and the secret switch on the bottom-right island.
